Is This The END of Sonos and Smart Speakers?

Sonos recently sent an email to customers and dealers letting them know that beginning in May of this year, certain older products were no longer going to be getting support in the form of software or firmware updates. This obviously angered a number of customers, and set off a firestorm on social media and the Internet on a whole. Some called for a boycott of Sonos while others have threatened lawsuits.

I weigh in on this decision by Sonos with my take as someone who has been around the block with technology. I do my best to present the argument from both sides as well as give examples as to why I don’t blame Sonos for their decision, as well as what this can all mean for smart tech going forward.
