8 Cheap HiFi Home Theater Hacks

8 CHEAP HIFI HOME THEATER HACKS

One of the greatest joys in being an audiophile or home theater enthusiast is stumbling upon a little life hack that solves a problem in your system -be it big or small. What’s even better is when those hacks turn out to be inexpensive, or even downright cheap! I put together a small list of 8 cheap HiFi home theater hacks you should own, have or be using already in your system.

HACK 1 - Washing machine isolators. These rubber “pucks” are designed to keep your washing machine and/or drier from moving around too much and cut down on the vibration and sound transmission to the rest of your home. Makes sense then that these cheap little pucks would do the same for audio and home theater subwoofers and large floor standing speakers. Guess what? They DO!

HACK 2 - Proster stylus force gauge. Everyone who is into vinyl records and that owns a record player of any notable quality needs a stylus force gauge. Thankfully this stylus force gauge from Proster is as good as the competition but costs less than $20!

HACK 3 - Anti-static brush and stylus cleaner kit. Another no-brainer for any vinyl enthusiast. Get yourself an inexpensive anti-static brush and a stylus cleaner and cut down on all those ‘pops’ and ‘clicks’ you hear in your record collection and make your turntable’s cartridge last THAT much longer.

HACK 4 - Commercial grade power strips & short power cables. Every piece of AV gear you buy comes with a power cable, but if you’re trying to keep things nice and tidy, consider getting a long, commercial grade power strip and some shorter, third party power cables to cut down on the clutter.

Something every home projection screen owner should have…

HACK 5 - Computer battery backup. For you front projection enthusiasts out there, plug your beloved projector into an uninterruptible power source or battery backup to protect your projector’s bulb from any unfortunate mishaps. Be sure to consult with your product’s manual before plugging in any piece of electronics into a surge suppressor or backup device as not ALL products react the same.

HACK 6 - Shorter interconnects. Like power cables, all AV products (or most anyway) come with cheap red and white audio cables in the box. These cables are (mostly) fine, but if you want to cut down on the cord clutter, consider buying third party cables that are the right size/length for your system.

HACK 7 - Velcro cable ties. These handy and cheap velcro straps make identifying and keeping your system’s cables neat and organized a breeze. Not much else to say other than, they work!

HACK 8 - Gorilla drywall hooks. These minimalist drywall anchors are super strong, durable and leave almost no marks on your wall. They’re good for hanging acoustic treatments, posters and other artwork. Just don’t try and hang your TV with them, please. You’ve been warned!
