How To Survive Working From Home
How To Survive Working From Home
With COVID-19 affecting everyone the world over, many people have been forced to adapt and in doing so work from home. While working from home may seem simple enough at first, it’s actually a little more difficult than simply opening a laptop and getting to work -it takes discipline. As someone who has worked for themselves and thus from home for the last decade, I’ve come up with a few tips and tricks on how to survive working from home.
Adapting to the WFH lifestyle
The biggest thing you can do to aide in the transition from going to work to working from home is keeping the same schedule. This means waking up at the same time, getting ready, and even dressed for work. Maybe you don’t have to put on a suit, or even “nice” clothing, but getting out of your PJs is very, very important.
Second is defining a workspace within your own home, apartment or room. The couch or your bed is not a suitable office environment, you need to set aside space if possible that is dedicated to doing your job. If you have a spare bedroom turn it into an office, complete with a clean, professional desk setup to keep you focused and motivated. Minimizing distractions is key when working from home for we can quickly become our own worst enemies when it comes to our productivity. A dedicated workspace or home office helps in making sure our mind stays in “work mode” when working from home.
Lastly, set goals, and reward yourself at the end of each day. If you leave work at 5pm normally, stop working from home at five. Once you’re done you can return to lounging and comfy clothing as your reward for putting in an honest day’s work!
